Problem installing 8.8 and 8.9 catalyst

I was having trouble getting the 8.8s to install when they came out so I waited until the 8.9s and am getting the same problem. On a fresh install last night after the reboot it comes back saying problem with ati cards reinstall drivers blah blah. In either case I put back the 8.7s and it works fine.

Any Suggestions?

Also both the 8.8 and 8.9 packs put bangs on my cards in device manager.

I did the fresh install of windows because this is causing me problems and it didn't help

My system listed below

Have you installed the INF updates from Intel?

I had the same problem on my P45 system, I had previously used an nvidia card without issue but the ATI drivers just would not install correctly. I viewed the installation as temporary and hadn't bothered to install the Intel INF updates, but after installing those 8.9's installed fine.

Yes all drivers were installed before video drivers. All windows updates were installed as well. Even after I had problems with 8.8 and 8.9 I went back to 8.7 just fine.
I also tried just drivers and leaving out CCC no luck there. I put a ticket in with ATI and what they keep saying I went through 3 times.
Really boggling.

I just installed a 4850 in my machine and had some trouble with that damned "zero display error." It finally went away after I upgraded my XP SP2 to SP3. Things are still seeming a bit off, but I'm hoping everything will clear up after a few more driver revisions.

Have you tried installing just a single card?

I haven't. And if that worked that would just piss me off even more. I should have never went with ATI. Drivers have always sucked.

I had more problems uninstalling Nvidia drivers even when I used Driver Sweeper in safe mode when I went back to ATI,you'll find problems on both sides of the fence with some users, personally ATI drivers have always been good to me.

Did you run drive cleaner?

run msconfig and see if any nvida drivers are still loading, if so then disable them

Odd, I don't know if the two are related, but I upgraded my Intel INF files and the 8.9 CCC quit crashing on me. There was an update on the Gigabyte site, so I figured why not.

I wiped the machine completely and downloaded newest drives from Gigabyte. I am seeing others are having the same problems all over the place.

I read somewhere that the new Cat. 8.8's and 8.9's install a newer version of Microsoft Visual c++. If you already have it on your system it was recommended to uninstall it first.

I would follow this guide to clean out your system before installing the newer drivers. It worked like a charm for me. You also know what is getting deleted instead of using a 3rd party app to clean out your old drivers.

InCrysis,

I have the same issue as you. Problem started with the 8.8s and 8.9s, no problem with the 8.7s. I have to 4850s in crossfire. Same error message, except if I reboot twice, CCC seems to work fine.

I even re-installed windows installing the new intel chipset drivers followed by the 8.9s. Got the same error message, re-booted a second time, and CCC loaded fine. I am running this setup currently. Hopefully 8.10s will change this.

But FYI, a complete reformat does not solve this issue. Definitely a driver issue. Just trying to give the heads up before anyone wastes their time installing and re-installing other files.
