After upgrading to HL 1109, i realized that my CS didnt have sound. OK DEEP BREATH!!! So i installed the upgrade to CS 1.3 -> 1.4 LOADED UP the CS. NO SOUND... ok i can live with that.. maybe a glitch. NOW after finding a server i that upgraded to CS 1.4, it crashes at the screen that says "LOADING"

I tried starting just a regular HL.. no sound, crashes before the screen where the GUY HAS A FACET in his EYE (after SIERRA logo screen)

So i reinstalled HL to 1108 and CS 1.3.. WORKS FINE... i tried downloading from so many servers, i think i have 5 copies of FULL/UPGRADE files of HL1109 and few files of CS 1.3 -> 1.4 files.. tried all.. every combination.. crashes....

I had NEVER had a prob with running CS...
AMD 1.33 w/ 256 DDR (EPOX 8k7a) Gainword Ti GF2 64 meg... and Turtle Beach Sound.... what is WRONG!!!!

if you're using xp try a compatibility mode... wildshot here but worth a try...

my cs only works with win2k compatibility... i havent even downloaded 1.4 though

I`ve WinXP with GF2Ti and Audigy and installed the CS update MODS,they work great for me,I would suggest if you`re having problems try uninstalling all CS and HL and then clean install of HL & download all the full version updates for both of them and see how it goes.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Just to let you know I did the upgrade yesterday and it works fine - and I'm on WinXP. Computer specs below. I know this is a stupid question, but are you sure you used the right update file (CS Retail vs. the other one). I was a bit confused on which one to use, but it ended up fine.

Did you do the Halflife update as well? I did it for Day of Defeat and it works fine as well.

Good luck.

kormaster, I had the exact same problem yesterday after I installed HL1109 and CS 1.4, but I was able to fix it by uninstalling Steam. For some reason, ASE (all seeing eye), would launch Steam instead of HL.exe and I could not connect to any servers. After removal of Steam, I was ok.

Do you have Steam installed?

I am having the same problems. I am in WindowsXP. At first it kept on saying that my card did not suppory OpenGL. A tried a whole slew of things but none worked. I ended up reinstalling Windows2000. After some installations, I got the freezing. But I had installed a lot of stuff, so it was by far no controlled enviroment. I decided to try WIndowsXP again. This time the first thing I installed was HL. I tried starting a LAN game and that worked. I proceeded to update to 1108, which worked. I upgraded to 1109 and go the freeze. I tried sp game and got the same thing. I uninstalled HL and removed registry settings. Reinstalled HL and went straight to 1109. Still get the freeze.

I am running an AMD1.4 on an EpoX 8kha and a gforce256. Any ideas? I would love to get this running in XP.

I'm also having problems with the latest version of CS/HL, whichever it is. When I exit a game, and try to leave the program, locks up.

YUP GUYS/.. same problem still persists... im on Winxp... never EVER had any prob running any kind of game on my beasty gaming machine.... (at least it was 6 month ago.. hehe) WEll.. HL isnt computer intensive game... and it seems to me that it is the HL 1109 update that screws everything up REGARDLESS of having CS MOD installed or not.. I am 100% that i got the MOD upgrade... not the retail version... I know.. i double checked myself if i was stupid.. hehe..

Well... so no CS for me for now.. i cant get it to work.. always freezes at LOADING screen on CS... and freezes after the LOGO SIERRA animation when trying HL...

Guys.. we should complain to Sierra.. heheh and tell them fix the darn update.... sigh.. i miss CS...

kormaster,

seems like me and you are having the same exact problems. I have tried in win2k and winxp. hl1109 definatly messes everything up. I tried adjusting my display setting to match those in game, but that was a no go. In win2k i dont freeze up, the game jsut exits. In winxp I freeze up. I am also using the mod version. When i check the event log i get dr.watson errors all over the place. which video drivers are you using kornmaster? any drivers for your epox board? i am using stock drivers for my 8kha and detonator 21.83 driver in win2k and detonator 28.32 drivers in xp. For some reason I can't get 28.32 drivers to work in 2k.

I'm sure if we look hard enough we can figure this out.

ok MINE is finally working..
after working on it all day..
this is wut i came up with..

i had mouse lag problems with cs with 1.3 due to that bug with XP or wutever..

the only way i fixed this problem was by turning off my sound accel in directx..

however, with 1.4, if u have sound accel turned off, it does that crash at the loading screen..
if u run dxdiag.exe and turn the sound accel back on, cs will run..
however, u will get the infamous lag again..

so how did i fix this problem?
i found an update that fixes the problem that sound blaster live has with xp..
then i turned on my sound accel in dxdiag.exe..
now cs runs and i have no mouse lag..

if u have soundblaster live and ur running xp, go d/l the update here..

hope this works for every1 else.. cuz i spent all friggin day figuring it out

THANK YOU kamiXnamja!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok the fix for this seems to be updating you sound card drivers. I have a maxisound muse, and i had forgot to install the drivers for it. Now that I put in the sound drivers, everything works fine. I am so happy now. w00t. =) I hope I make sense.

I tired your way of turning off the sound acc... but i dont have LIve.. i have Santa Cruz... and they dont have any new drivers.. just a XP driver that was released 1-10-02
HL 1109 gets rid of SOUND for me and crashes the program.... i dont think it is the MOD 1.4 update.. it's that darn file...

After I leave a game, and click done, it'll freeze at the main screen just showing the image and not the options for a long while(20 seconds?), then it shows up and I can quit.

kamiXnamja-

Could you please tell me what dxdiag.exe...is? What I have done so far is download the newest soundblaster live driver using your link. Then I turned on the hardware acceleration again through the control panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio tab>etc. Then when I tried to play CS on the internet the mouse lag isn't gone. So am I doing something wrong? I have the SoundBlaster live 5.1. Any help appreciated...I am desperate for help.

hmm, still getting mouse lag after those drivers..

rightclick on your shortcut for cs, go to properties, and try copying these 3 things after the target line quotes..
-noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd

so it should look like this..
C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -console -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd
or something like that depending on ur cs folder..

im assuming ur running windows xp so i'll go ahead and tell u to also set the compatibility..
in that same properties of ur cs, go to compatibility and click the
"run this program" box and run it in windows 98/me..

then when cs starts, make sure ur mouse filter is off..
you can do that by typing "m_filter 0" in your console for cs..
that should minimize any mouse lag you're getting..
if that doesnt work, post again and i'll look into it some more
