I have 3 computers using Windows XP and am trying to enable file/print sharing. On one computer I can see my MSHOME network but when I drill down into one of the other computers I get this message "\\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this networkresource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Network Path not found."

On the other 2 computers I can't even get to seeing the network and get the above message when trying to view workgroup computers.

I am running through a 2wire router provided to me for my SBC DSL service. All computers are hooked up via Ethernet cable and I have the wireless feature turned off. All computers connect fine to the internet via the router.

Any help would be appreciated I'm currently e-mailing files between computers for sharing.

the SBC tech support person suggested I post here.

OK - nobody seems to have an answer or I have provided too little information.

Can any one provide input on what additional information I might need to provide to help resolve issue. I spent 3 hours on this and am stumped.

The MS tool for setting up the network doesn't seem to work, I have done some of the suggested fixes from MS regarding setting Netbios/TCP/IP and restarting the web services etc. The only one I have not tried is the one with all the warnings and requires updating the registries. I do not want to attempt this on three computers.

I have IP addresses for the three computers that the 2Wire software assigned to me. Can I explicitly use these IP addresses for setting up the network?

Are the IP's part of the same subnet? Can you \\<ip_address> and reach any of the hosts? Do you have firewall software installed?

I have 2 new HP Desktops with the 90 day Norton software, and the 2Wire software seems to have installed some sort of firewall as well. I have an older HP laptop that only has the Freedom firewall supplied from my home adelphia system.

I didn't install the 2Wire software on my laptop. My laptop can see the other 2 desktops but I can't drill down into the shared folders.

On the desktops I can \\ip address the laptop but not the other desktop. When I do the other desktop it says network path not found. From the laptop I can't \\ip address either desktop and get the network path not found message.

I also have a Brother Multifunction printer set up as a network printer off the router and that works fine with all three computers

When I get the network status from the 2wire status page it shows all three computers and my network printer up and running

Also they do seem o have the same subnet the IP addresses are all the same except for the last digit. Also I called the 2Wire support desk and they can also see all the computers but don't have an answer and refer me to MS for help in resolving

If it has Norton Firewall, turn that off. I have found that it prevents you to connect to other computers.
