*PROBLEM FOUND to be AIM* Low resouces...in only 14 hours on Win2k? Not possible...

Give this a quick read over, suggestions greatly appreciated;

OK - Let me try and explain the problem as well as I can. I run Win2k Pro. I use the following software regularly: kjofol (mp3 player), IE 6, mIRC, AIM, Gamespy, Quake3. After anywhere between 14 hours and 4 days of uptime, my computer will no longer open any new apps, folders or menus. I can close one app, browswer or window in exchange for being able to open something else. Within 10min of this problem starting, I am no longer able to open anything new.

My first thought about the problem was a memory leak in one of the programs, but the Performance tab in the Task Manager shows plenty of available memory and my memory usage is always low. I also downloaded a third party app (PC Booster) that checks memory status and can even refresh used up memory. I am using 512k of Corsair RAM.

Is there a better program I can use for checking system resources? Is there a better way to diagnose the issue or even troubleshoot the problem to one specific program?

I can't say for certain what the problem is, as that is very odd for Windows 2000. But I can say, at least in my experience, that third party memory managers plus any NT based OS equals more trouble than anything else.

Thanks, I shall remove the app as I don't really need it anyway. However, this issue started before I installed/ran the third party memory checker.

Are there any EVENT ID Codes set in the EVENT LOG?

Also, it might help if you describe the hardware you are
currently using.

problem is that your only got 512kb of ram in that pc, maybe you need to gett 512mb ;o. J/k i understand you was going by what ms task manager says, right? ;p:brokenheart:

Ok, I found the problem...I discovered that chatting on AOL Instant Messenger a LOT (for an hour or two) would bog down my entire system. All I need to do is reload the program to release the resources.

I've got the latest copy of AIM, and I never would've thought it would have such a memory leak...but anyway, at least now I know what is causing it! Thought I would share it with the rest of you.
