I have a Linksys 4 port router set up.. its linked to my dsl modem and 4 computers. Now i would like to expand to 5 ports... would like to take one of the ports from the router and hook it up with a netgear hub EN104. Is this possible? How do i go about setting up the internet connections for a computer on a hub that is on a router?🙁

This is what I have done so far, unplugged port one of my router and plugged it into the uplink port... now the uplink port goes to my hub in port one. I have two computer on my hub in ports 2 and 3, but i don't get to my internet and can't see the netowork.. I have DSL and i am using DHCP, I have my computers set up to obtain ip automatically.. Are there any router settings i need, or computer settings? Would resetting the router help? I have already done a power cycle........

As you said plug a hub to one port of the Router, and plug the Computer that you took off the Router, and the new computer to the Hub.

That is it nothing else to do the Hub joins the DHCP of the Router (if you use DHCP).

Use the correct CAT5 cable to connect the Hub to the Router.

Yes it's possible. You would unplug whatever device is in port 1 of your router, plug a cable from the Uplink port on the router to any port (other than an uplink port) on the hub, plug the device you removed from port 1 into the hub along with your additional devices and you're done. The setup is exactly the same for all the devices - they're all part of the same network.

Please note that if you use the uplink port on the router, you CANNOT use port 1.

Since the EN104 has a switchable uplink port, you could alternately use port 4 on the hub, set to uplink, connected to a port other than the uplink port on the router.

You of course realize that you're only gaining 2 ports with this setup. Before you had 4 ports, now you'll have 6.

ok, i have the system hooked up as stated above... soemthing popped up on my computer on the hub, The system has detected a conflict for ip 192.168.100 with the system hardware address 0D:A0:CC😀6😀6:A8.............. what an error message, by the way my router starts giving ip addresses with 192.168.1.100 101 then 102 and so on.

it means two machines are using the same IP address; if your router is doing DHCP unplug all your computers and then plug them in one by one so they get individual addresses.
