For about three days now my stock A64 CPU fan it seems has been running at full speed where as it would only run that way only when playing a game. It is beyond annoying to have it running full speed when I am just surfing the net. Anyone know the reason for this or a fix? The CPU is a 3700+ SD running at stock speeds.

The CPU temp is at 40.c so its not over heating. The fan is running at 5500RPM. Also I tried Cool n Quite but it did nothing for the fan speed.

Thanks

40C idle? At 5500rpm? That's a bit bad. Not alarming by any measure, but inefficient.

Try activating QFan in BIOS.

its the mobo that controls the fan speed (BIOS primarily) .. what mobo are you using ? and what BIOS rev ?

1) Blow the dust out of your fan/heatsink.
2) Check to see what CPU usage is. Maybe something's taking up your CPU usage, causing the system to run the fan all the time.

Remove C n Q. Reset the BIOS. Retest.

The nominal temp of my 3000 winchester (overclocked to 3700 speed) is 33C with C n Q enabled. It's 37C without C n Q. Max load in Super PI is 51C. Prime95 is higher at 56C.

I use the Zalman 7000Cu cooler set at 1920 rpm.

NYC is pretty hot right now but I had my AC on all last night and today and still had this problem. Turning QFan on seems to have fixed the problem but I still dont know what happened to cause such a change in fan speen bing that its very cool in my place and I have not touched the bios in a few weeks. Fan speed is down to about 3500RPM and CPU is at 44C while I am burning a DVD. I hope thats normal.

Thanks for all the help and quick responses everyone.
