I can't get the IDE promise controller on my A7v 266E to recognize a drive. I am running XP Pro with 1.6 XP. I am running on the windows drivers from XP. I can,t get the 4 in 1's to load. Therefore I can't get at my PCI Mass Storage controller to load promise IDE drivers.
Can someone help with this problem?

The board is great system is stable but I sure would like to have the other IDE slots.
Thanks:)

First question, are you trying to run RAID or IDE? If you are trying to run a RAID array, you need 2 HDs, each with their own cable going into the top 2 IDE connectors on the board. Then when you boot up, press CNTRL F to set up the array. After that it's pretty straightforward. Both drives should be set as Master.

Did you move the jumper to IDE/RAID? It's on the far right in the middle. Bottom and middle is IDE, middle and top is RAID.

Did you check your boot order in the BIOS? Should be something like, floppy, IDE, CDRom... disabled (unless you can be on a network and boot). If you're trying to boot from a RAID array, you will have to have it set as Floppy, disabled, disabled, SCSI.

Where is your primary HD plugged into? It should be in the blue lower slot. If it isn't taken up, set the other drive jumpers to slave and use the secondary connector on the IDE cable to plug in the drive.

What are the jumpers set for on the back of the drive? If it's a drive by itself, it needs to be set as Master. Plug it into the IDE RAID channels up top, not into the IDE drive.

Post system specs before you ask a question (what you have there tells me nothing on what you have and how you have it wired up)... otherwise people just end up wasting time stabbing in the dark to find the solution to your issue. If you have a standard system, there's no reason why you need to use the extra IDE channels. You can plug 2 HD's into the IDE cable, 2CDRoms, or a CDRom/hard drive into the other channel, again using one cable.

FYI Promise drivers and Via drivers are two different things. The promise driver is on the CD, right click it and explore... it's in a folder called Promise or SCSI, can't remember. Don't need to load the 4in1 IDE driver with XP, comes with it. The issue is more likely in the BIOS, a jumper the only thing that loads is the INF and there is a updated AGP driver out. The latest version of the 4in1's is 4.36, released yesterday.
