Problem Employee

Hi all,
I am having a problem with on of my employees, who has recently been greatly upstaged by a new hire. The original employee seemed competent, but my recent new hire really shows his glaring deficiences. Any thought on how to start him down the path of un-employment?
thanks

or you could try to be more "human" by giving the old employee a chance to improve. Worst case, you might get slapped with wrongful termination.

If your first employee is a decent person, and he's been working for you for any serious time (anything beyond a normal probationary period), you owe him a positive chance to grow and improve his performance before you coldly shove him out the door. Anything less makes you one cold hearted SOB. :frown:

Have him come in for a performance review. List all of the areas he "needs improvement" in, in addition to some things that he's doing okay in also. Tell him that while you appreciate the things he does right, if he still has so many areas in need of improvement at the time of his next review in 3 months, his employment may be at risk.

if you want to motivate people who have no reason to care for your company i suggest you look no further than your avatar.

Or the OP is the "problem employee" and is looking for Anandtech with an answer on the signs to look for when getting ready to be unleashed on the unemployment line 🙂
