Problem: Display will not refresh at anything but 60hz

Well I took out my Geforce2MX and put in my shiny new OEM Radeon 8500 (64mb). I'm using windows 2000 pro. I just installed this card with the latest drivers available on ATi's website. I'm getting annoyed. I change resolutions and refresh rates and still my monitor refreshes at just 60hz no matter what settings I fool with on windows. Will Ihave to do a fresh install of the O/S? I uninstalled the nvidia drivers before installing the ATI.. maybe that was not good enough? Yes I did install the drivers for my monitor..

I desperately need help.

2 things come to mind.

It could be traces of your old driver.

Some of the ati drivers had refreash rate problems in the past. I thought newer drivers solved it though. Try changing the refreash rate in the windows advanced properties of your card.

A really nice place (usually) to get good information on ati products is www.rage3d.com they are pro ati and offer tweaks, utilities, and people post different drivers and stuff there. Give them a try and see if you can find your answer there.

Hope this helps.

do you need it to refresh at anything other than 60hz? or it's just the fact that it doesn't? change your monitor type to a standard SVGA, with whatever resolution you use, and pick 75hz for the refresh rate...? good luck

Check the advanced properties for the display(Display's Tab), Click below the Monitor, DDC information may not be supported. I use BNC cables and have to enter the Max resolution/refresh rate into the properties for it to actually use the refresh rate you choose. Had the same symtoms you describe.

You are right. I figured it out yesterday afternoon! LOL. I didn't know there were 2 places you could set the refresh rate and under the displays tab you can set the monitors max refresh rate for all resolutions. I didn't even know it was there! I guess by default it's set at 60HZ. Everything looks great now, though. If I could just get games to refresh faster than 60HZ I'll be ok. I've downloaded "refreshforce" but haven't muddled around with it yet.

Thanks
