i was pulling my hair out for days. i bought a new western digital 80gb hard drive and my motherboard was not detecting it. i only had one drive in there. there are 2 jumper settings in the back for master. i never really noticed. one is for master as a single drive by itself, the other is for master with another drive present as slave. i set it to single master and it worked. thank god. just thought i'd let anybody else having problems know this. :)

You would have saved what little hair you have left by setting your PATA drives to CS.

40 pin IDE cable? WTF? Even DVD burners use 80 pin IDE cable now a days. I've been using 80 pin since... man, I don't even remember. Never had a problem setting jumper to CS for pretty much any, current, HD.
