Hi all,

I am torn. 😉. This may be comparing apples to oranges or 17 inch vs 15.4 but I want to know which should I keep.

The main specs are:

Studio17 has T8100 2.1 800fsb/3mb L2, 3gb ram, 1440x900WLED, 320gb HD, 256HD3650 DDR2 gpu, 2 year warranty - $935 incl tax.

M-6862 has T5750 2.0 667fsb/2mb L2, 4GBram, 1280x800, 250gb HD, 512HD2600 DDR3 gpu, 1 year warranty - $641 inc tax.

I do light gaming so is it worth it to keep the Dell or just go with the Gateway?

Thoughts...

Hi all,

I am in such a dilemma.

i do not think that word means what you think it means 😉

the only thing you said you do is light gaming.

are there any other requirements? do you intend to take whatever you get around with you often? is the monetary value an issue?

haha. I may need to rewrite that.

Light gaming on medium is fine. I do not need it be be on the highest settings for nirvana. I do not plan to take it with me everywhere. Once in a while on family trips and thats it. I have 2 desktops at home for my core gaming needs.

I want to get the most bang for the buck. Of course saying that, cheaper is good. 😀

I am hoping that it will play games decently for a awhile. Half life 2 and the older far cry plays good on the Studio17. I just got the gateway but did not open so no comparison there.

If it's bang for buck, I would keep that Gateway instead. Btw, how does the videocards in both laptops compare? I've seen the charts at notebookcheck.com but those are the worst charts ever, which compare different spec'd laptops and graphics cards with different memory speeds together. The HD 3650 on the dell is DDR3?

the HD3650 on the Dell is DDR2 but I think performance is similar with each other according to the chart at nbr.

bang for the buck does go to the Gateway. I may open it to check it out tonight.
