Problem cooling fx-53 w/xp-120

I must have reseated this heatsink like 5 times and I keep getting high idle temps of 48c. Ambient room temps are 73-75c and the mobo is 23c. I tried every method of applying the AS5 I am using, real thin with a razor, a tiny bead, etc. I even used articlean to clean the surface of the heatsink and cpu die. If I take the case cover off it will drop to about 46, but thats as low as I can go. When I first installed the it idle temps were around 40, but went up after about a day. I reseated it and ever since then It's always been 48c. I am using an asus A8V board. Any ideas what the problem can be?

You're computer is in a room that is 75c....thats like 167F!!! I'd say your CPU is getting some damn good cooling for it to be almost 25 degrees lower than room temp. Perhaps your room needs a heatsink?

Try lowering your ambient room temp
Make the wiring inside your case neat so air can flow freely
Add a rear exhaust fan and fron intake fan on your case...

Figured that.

I've heard that the AS takes awhile to show its true effectivness, but even then those are high temps.

Does your XP-120 feel warm? It might be that your motherboard is over reporting the temps.

THe portion of the base over the die that I can actually reach and feel does not feel warm at all. I used an infra red temp gun to check it out and it is reading 30-32c on the exposed corner of the heatsinks base. Could the board really be that wrong?

I don't know, but my XP-120 dosnt seem to get warm at all at least when the case is open. When the case is closed it does get warm but not any more-so than what the ambiant temp inside the case feels like.

So your motherboard could be that wrong, if your computer is stable under load.

When you remove your heatsink, does it look like it was smooshing the AS 5? Also, Pull out the mobo and install it on a cardboard box. Shine a flash light, can you see any separations between the cpu core and the heatsink?

Yah the heatsink spread out the AS5 pretty well. I am pretty sure there is good contact, cause I really have to press the sucker down. Also when I reseated it the bottom of the heatsink I noticed the edges of the die scratched it, so there is a nice little outline. It must have good contact then to create that?
