Last night I helped my friend build his rig, but we had a problem.

1. I installed motherboard, cdram, hd, vid card, and everything else.
2. I got to turn the comp on, and it doesnt turn on.
3. After playing with the reset switches and wires for about 30 mintues we got it on by fluke
4. We got windows up and all the drivers installed
5. We turn comp off, and try to turn it back on, doesnt come back on. After playing with it for 30 minutes again it worked.

We repeated step 5 about 3 times

I personally think the wires for the power switch are defective but im not really sure because it did work a few times. Could the mobo possibly be damaged?

Try unplugging all the IDE devices and cables and see if that helps. I had a problem last night with a bad IDE cable. It was brand new, but wasn't working right with my mobo, system wouldn't post at all, just because of the stupid cable...

Also pull any extra PCI cards that you don't need, just in case they are causing problems.

Try running memtest if you can get it to boot again and see if it gives any errors: www.memtest.org

If you think the power switch wire is bad, you can just connect the two pins with a metal screwdrive to do the same thing. BE CAREFUL THOUGH! Just touch the two with the head of the driver quickly. Should turn it on.

I had that problem with a computer I just built. The problem for me was that the power supply was too weak. I went out and got an Antec and everything worked fine. Try a different power supply before switching components. Good luck.
