I already have win98SE installed and I want to dual boot with win2k.  The problem is when I try to boot off of the win2k CD, it says:

Setup is detecting your computer's hardware configuration...

NTDETECT failed

Then it just hangs there.  I can just install win2k to another partition from within win98E, correct?  But why can't I boot from the CD?

Actually, if you are wanting to dual-boot, you can run it from within your Win98 GUI. As long as you have "autorun" enabled, it will work.

As to why you are having problem booting with the CD, I can only say it might be due to a poor copy or bad CD.

The very worst case situation (but not bad at all), would be to create "boot floppies" (4 needed).

Sounds to me like your NT Boot loader is getting corrupted form the get go, is you cd all scratched?
If it is it may be that when it creates it on your harddrive it is copying the file badly.

I would try to make the floppies like DocDoo suggested.

I installed W2K Pro in the first partician, then XP RC-1 in the second, I wanted to boot and re-install W2K however XP would not allow the boot from CD, I deleted XP Partician ie XP and now it boots on startup. In my opinion, these two OS's do not work well on the same harddrive or I seemed to have a lot of problems when both were installed and now for the last two weeks, W2K is problem free w/o xp.
