Problem booting from cdrom

ok im trying to format my drive and reinstall XP ok so i went in bios and set it to boot from the cdrom.. ok i restart.. it says booting from atapi CDROM like it always does.. but it doesnt recognize a disk in there i guess it just goes to XP and i cant boot from the disk so i can format!! /cry! and yes, i did have my cd in the drive :p .. i do not know what is wrong :-/ i know i didnt give a good detailed description but whatever.. please reply ASAP

(btw: XP does show the XP cd in the drive and i can access all the data on it hummmm)

no i do not i only have one

another detail maybe be problem (im a newbie so dont laugh if what i say is irrelevant)

my cdrom is set as primary master and my hd is slave.. if i remember i think its supposed to be the other way around

Yes your hard drive should be primary master. Your cdrom could be either primary slave, secondary master, or secondary slave.

could this be the problem? and if so how do i fix this? its set on auto and i tried manual but nothing happened i dont know what to do

You would have to open up your computer and change the jumpers on the hard drive and cdrom to make them master and slave, respectively.

Is it a full version WinXP cdrom you are using? If so, what release/version?

The problem may be then that in burning that CD files were missed and it is not bootable. Go buy the d@mn OS.

That is great and all and I hope you solve your problem, but that doesnt change the fact that you need to buy the d@mn OS.

blah how do i make a boot floppy disk.. seems like the easiest way then if i can get into a dos prompt or whatever id know what to do
