Problem: Antec Phantom 350

Hi, I'm new here.

I was just wondering if anyone had the same problem as I did. I just bought an Antec 350 Phantom yesterday and I installed it. Everything was fine. The PSU was a tad bit hot so I increased my fan speeds. (I have a Zalman CPU fan and 3 Vantec Stealth case fans). I checked my cpu temp before I slept and it was running at a decent temperature, aroudn 52 degrees celcius under load.

I woke up at 6am to enroll in summer school, and again, everything was fine.

I woke up at 9am and my computer was shut off. At first, I thought maybe my p4 chip reset itself, due to heat.

So I pressed the power button and my fans would spin for a second and the power would just stop again.

I tried isolating computer parts and checking the voltage but it was no help.

I switched back to my old Zalman PSU and it was fine.

I was just wondering if this was a quality control issue on Antec's side or has this happened to others (meaning it was my fault)?

I can exchange for a new Phantom but I'm a little scared that its' going to happen again.

What do u guys think?
Thanks a lot.

If you check out the SPCR forums you?ll find lots of stories like this, so it doesn?t seem to be an isolated situation. Either way I?ve heard of enough of them dieing to not want to try one myself.

Besides passive PSU?s are pretty pointless in my opinion anyway. It?s very hard to bring you?re system down to a level where the loudest component would be a Zalman or Seasonic PSU.

I?d go back to the Zalman.

Get your 150$ back and get a Seasonic S12 430 for 100$
Eat a 50$ steak. Now you are happy, your computer is happy, life couldnt be more merrier!

Agreed with Operandi and Tiamat-- Get yourself a Seasonic.

The thing with fanless PSUs is that it's pointless, because you end up adding additional fans to the case to keep it cool anyway!

Just get a PSU with a quiet, slow-speed 120mm fan-- The Seasonic S12 or Super Tornado.

HTH.
