Problem after installing new motherboard-- computer wont boot properly

I bought a K7s5a PRO Socket A motherboard w/ AMD Athlon 1.7ghz processor recently and have installed it

however, now my computer will not boot. it powers on but keeps resetting every few seconds-- and nothing will display on my monitor

i SWEAR i have it mounted properly-- even have a paper ring between the board and the stands. It works FINE when i try it outside of the case.

My case features an odd metal stand built into it at a little past the center of the board and to the right-- it fits into a stand hole on the motherboard but could this be the cause of my woes?

I'm going nuts here trying to figure this thing out and its just not happening.

Can someone help? Have you run into this problem before?

Thanks a LOT!

Welcome to the Forums 🙂 Try this really fast: instead of hooking your case's power-switch wire to the motherboard's header, manually trip the header by making momentary contact between the Power Button pins using a screwdriver tip. If the board runs and stays running, then perhaps your case's Power button is just internally stuck. A stuck power button would give a continuous electrical connection to the motherboard's pins, and the board would think "oh, he's holding down the power button, that's my signal to shut down."

Good luck with the troubleshooting 🙂 If the issue isn't the power button, also look closely at the I/O panel to see if any of the metal springie-contact fingers are getting into your USB ports or something, and of course keep suspecting those motherboard standoffs too.

turns out it IS the plate that covers my USB ports etc

i couldnt figure out how to make it fit without shorting it, so i removed it (and tortured it with a pair of plyers)

now everything works fine, although the board never seems to remember the proper CPU speed......

Sounds like the short managed to drain your motherboard battery. Pick up a new battery (they always seem to be the easy-to-find CR2032) and I bet that will help 😀

I had the same problem (not remembering the bus speed settings), and I finally had to give up after multiple replacements didn't resolve it. From what I have been able to discover talking to other techs, this series of motherboards is VERY critical of the power supply . . . which defeats the whole purpose of trying to save a few bucks in the first place <sigh>.

My final solution was to give up and go with the AOPEN M77 series board and that has been very stable. FYI, this was not on one system, or even one brand of case/power supply, this was with FOUR systems and three different brands of cases.
