probability question

bmacd

Lifer
I haven't had to do this kind of math in quite some time and my little brother is stumped.

During his career, the probability that Babe Ruth would get a hit was .342. What is the probability that Babe would NOT get a hit in two consecutive times at bat?

The probability that he won't get a hit at bat is 1 - 0.342.
The probability that he won't get a hit at two consecutive at bats is the probability he won't get a hit * the probability that he won't get a hit. (two instances).

So (1 - 0.342) * (1 - 0.342) or (1 - 0.342) squared

All probabilities are 50%. Either an event will occur, or it will not.

This is ridiculous as people already know, but let me make it clear. You have 3 different colored die in a cup (1 red, 1 blue, 1 green). Do you have a 50% chance of getting green?
