Thanks in advance for any help
Alright here goes.

The Problem
I just bought a new MB, CPU, RAM and casing to upgrade my old pc.

MSI 865PE NEO2-PFS Platinum
Pentium 4-3.0E GHz (800) Prescott Retail
PC 3200/400 Corsair DDR400
Antec LANBOY +350w PSU

So i fixed up everthing, formatted my harddisk and started to install. I'm using winxp pro.

When it reaches the part where it starts copying files right after the format, it randomly stops and says that xxx file has not been copied correctly, then asks me to retry, or quit.

Sometimes a retry works and the install carrys on with random retrys again here and there till it reaches the windows desktop. (Other times the retry dosen't work and its just stuck there.)

Then i try to copy the files i backed up from another pc. After copying i try to open them and it says they're corrupted. I also tried installing DX9b, anti virus, all of them come up with corruption errors.

Things i've tried
I've tried formating again, only to have the copying file problem right after the format happen again. I've tried formating and installing about 6 times but still the same thing.

I've also removed all hardware except the graphic card.

I've checked my samsung HD with the application from their website and it says the HD is error free, but when i check it with chkdsk, it says it has "some unrecoverable problems".

I've also tried wipeing the HD with the samsung application, but the same problem is there.

I've checked, my hd is using UDMA 100 and my motherboard supports it too.

I've checked the motherboard website with tested hardware, my graphics card (Leadtek GF4ti 4400) is compatible, but my harddisk is not on their list of tested hardware.

The only thing i can think of is that my harddisk, Samsung SP0802N / 80.0GB / 7200rpm is not compatible with my motherboard?

I urgently need my pc for my work, so any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

after browsing through several other posts and forums, i suspect it could be my ram causing the problem. Will go back and try upping the voltage, switch slots, see what happens.

I also swapped my dvdrom with another cdrw drive and the same problem, so it can't be a defective cdrom. :(

Had the EXACT same problem rebuilding a friends computer and it DID turn out to be the RAM. Replaced the RAM and all was well!
