Hi Guys ...second post, no answer to the first.
I have no onboard sound. All the Via drivers loaded right, and I loaded them in the right order. I initally loaded the sound drivers first (wong) but uninstalled that, and then done it the right way ...by the book.
Weird thing is the IRQ is 5 in the bios, and 10 in device manager. So I go back to bios, and change it to 10, and when it boots into 98 SE, it has reverted to 5. What in the world is going on? All seems well other than this. I have yet to try a new bios. Could this be it?

Have you enabled onboard sound in the bios?

About the irq, could it be that sb16 emulation (for dos games) is at irq5 and the "real" sound is at irq10?

Yes, I have all enabled in the bios. The odd thing is that they will swap. Say it is 5 in device manager, so I go to bios and set it at 5, then when I get back to the device manager, the IRQ for the sound has swapped to 10.
