Well - here goes.

I have been scouring the net in all my usual places to try and find a copy of the original privateer disks.

I am not sure if anyone still has them - but I think they are small enough to email. I know that the game is being remade - but the remake is buggy and not the same as the orig.

I want to still be able to watch the movies in the cut scenes etc. I was hoping someone might know where to get it - I know its open source now so I dont want to bother buying it since it is a free game.

If anyone knows where to DL the ACTUAL original game I would very much appreciate any help you could give. Thanks

That game is sweet. Brings up great memories. I actually have the original privateer disks, along with righteous fire expansion pack. I'd gladly e-mail or ftp them to you, provided it is legal (i.e. the game is on the list of free games).

P.S. I actually never finished it. I was being chased by the alien ship and didn't know where to go. Years later I realized I was supposed to talk to some adminiral in the Kilrathi sector :)

Dude, the game never ends. You just keep privateering. Would have made such a good MMO, but Origin/EA canned it.

I don't remember the Kilrathi part.....I just shot up the alien and took his gun.

I also played Privateer 2 which wasn't as good, though had more complex economy, but it had FMV cut scenes with some seriously good actors. I think we're about due for Privateer 3.

Privateer 3 = Freelancer. It was good, but nowhere near as good as the original.

I am at work - tried to set it up - I think I have them enabled but either way I couldnt figure it out.

Just send an email to that email address i put in your PM - and I'll check it when I get home.

Wish I was at home so I could play some Privateer ;-)

Thanks again ... I'll be in touch in about 7 hours or so.

What I was trying to set in PM - I don't think 200MB (i think that's the size of the game) would go through any e-mail client. Try to find an ftp server or any other place where I can upload the game and I'd gladly do so.

We must've played different versions then. In my version the Alien ship was invulnerable. You had to fly to kilrathi sector, speak to some admiral who would tell you of a way to destroy the alien ship, at which point you get his gun. That would finish the quest quest line, of course you can still continue privateering.

It's uploading as we speak. I zipped up the content of CD (placed in "Privateer and RF" directory). The zip file includes both original privateer and Righteous Fire expansion pack. Enjoy.

P.S. Perhaps if somebody has free space they can host this in the "free games" thread.
