Private School or Public School?

I went to both, and honestly it depends on the school. I went to private school kindergarten - 8th grade, and it was alright. It was a close group of friends, considering I only had 18 kids in my class; but I would have to say the public high school that I'm attending now is preparing me much better for the future. The only reason I'm in a relatively low math (Alg 2 / Trig - Junior Year) is because the teachers in private school don't have to be credentialed. So besides the closeness of friends, and not having to hear all the drama of public school, I would have to say that if you take advantage of public school, it is the better; but it depends on the private school. I mean, Mater Dei would have to be like a public school with many more options. I would have to say it depends on the school.

It really depends on the school. I had a very good private school experiance, others do not. Parents should do a lot of research, education is "extremely" important.
 
It depends on the school and the environment within, and it depends on the kid. I've gone to both public and private schools. The public schools I went to happened to be great. I went to a private school for 9th grade and hated it. (They fined my mom $10 every time I was tardy--yes, they added it to the tuition bill. One teacher started an investigation on me with one of the deans for cheating because I "somehow" aced all my exams but never finished my homework--an insulting situation, as I've never cheated. I was never put under that kind of scrutiny in public school.) I transferred back to public school for 10th grade and I was happy again.
 
I went to public school for 1-5th grade, private school for 6-10th grade, and public school for 11-12th grade, and I'll send my kids to private schools if I can afford it.
 
Private boarding school, and my kids will be the same if they are smart enough.

While private schools may not be for everyone, they can offer a lot more than your typical public school.

what the hell ar eyou talking about? Unless you are talking baout expensive schools like Phillips Academy, Private schools cannot afford more than public. In private schools, fuding is dam limited that they usually have to resort to walk-a-thons to raise money.

That said, I went to private, but i have no idea where i will send my kids. I guess it depends where i live when I grow up.
 
I went to public while most of my friends did private or a mixture. Based on that, the public system was far better where I grew up. The private kids even had to do a mid-afternoon drive to the public school to take classes and do sports that the private school couldn't offer (calculus/precalculus math, any foreign language, and swimming for examples). Where I was at, the private school was about half the population of the public school but had maybe 1/5th of the classes offered.

But it depends on where I live when I have kids. Inner city public schools are worthless (my sister taught at one for a couple of years). The whole lack of caring by the students/parents makes it virtually impossilbe for the teachers to get into the depth of material that I think should be taught. Thus given that public option only, I'd go private.

I was actually, that's where I went. And 40% of the students are on financial aid so it's not like it is impossible to pay.
