I'm going to check out the local schools over the next couple weeks and take some demo flights before spending a lot of money. I'm in Redondo Beach, CA, close to Hawthorne and Torrance airports. Any helpful advice? Pitfalls to avoid?

Does anybody have experience with Benbow, Security Aviation, South Bay Aviation, or Rolling Hills Aviation?

I've read some stuff at http://www.aopa.org/, if you know of any good websites please let me know.

TIA.

www.beapilot.com

When I get some money I want to get my PPL.. but for multi engine not single prop..but then if I have to start with single prop I will start with that..

I have been longing for my wings.. now only if I had the money.

I would suggest shopping around cause the prices vary by area and by schools.

The best piece of advice I ever got was not to be afraid of dumping an instructor that either isn't doing the job or that you may have a personality conflict with. Your the customer.

Pay close attention to the instructor when he/she explains cross winds and or Touch and go landings. Almost killed my instructor and I on my first half dozen touch and goes....natural reaction is to dump the flaps and throttle and pull up at the last minute.

All in all took me a year of casual schooling to get the private license.
In the end its all worth it though.

P.S. Try not to wet your pants during step stall training.
