Private Messages.....

Should set this up so that when someone private messages someone that it will automatically enable private messages for them.

I get alot of new users that private message me but dont have it enabled... and they keep asking how come I havent responded back. I have no idea who they are or how to get ahold of them to let them know.. or to find out what it is they want from me. (they dont have profile enabled either)

If they private message someone.. do they get the response back or does private messages have to be enabled first?

Thanks but no thanks 🙂. That's a pretty darn huge security infraction. If people want to receive private messages they can turn them on themselves.

Thanks

Zuni, I do understand your view, but I have said a couple times before that people should have to enable PMs to be able to send them. It's frustrating to get a PM from someone who doesn't have their PMs enabled. However, you, the receiver, don't know that they don't have their PMs enabled, so you go ahead and type a reply to the person just to find out that the sender doesn't have their PMs enabled. It's quite frustrating because you've lost what you spent time writing.

If people want to send them, then they should have to be able to receive them too.

<< people should have to enable PMs to be able to send them >>

Makes far more sence than current position, which doesnt make sence to me.

I agree.

If a member does not have PMs enabled for themselves, they should not be able to send PMs.

Along these lines, suppose someone who normally has PM's disabled chooses to enable them to send a PM and then disable them once again. I'm assuming that you can currently reply to the PM. If that isn't the case, it would make sense to me to ensure a reply would get through.

By the way, at one time, I could send a PM to anyone on my Buddy List, whether or not they had PM's enabled. If I put the big boss on my buddy list, I can bring up a "Send Private Message" window. If I go through the PM page, I get the response "Sorry, that user either does not exist or does not wish to receive private messages" (or something to that effect).
