Time and time again people were told that our database infrastucture is not for a personal storage space. We clean it as we see fit, to provide the upmost performance for our users. Adding a way to download your PM box will probably not happen as its near impossible without causing degraded forum performance. We value this service and do our upmost to keep it running as fast as possible. Database pruning is an important strategy in any IT network and we are no different.

Thank you.

Our WebMaster forwarned everyone in ADVANCE... That's enough no matter the timing...In the future copying what would be important OTS! (On The Spot) and cleaning your PM's would help from this situation to occur,...which BTW has been awhile

just out of curiousity, what made you have to quickly clean the databases right away? it mutve been something urgent if you didn't give out another warning message

LED, I'm sure the warning was appreciated... but when Zuni posts that he will be expunging old PMs at a specific date and time, then people are going to think they have that much time to make the necessary backups. As you can see above, yakko, ViperGTS and I'm sure many others never even got a chance to back things up.

In general, you are correct in that people should back up any important info immediately without Zuni needing to remind them. But you must understand the fact that people are going to react negatively to a deadline that is imposed on them and then suddenly moved up without warning.

Not to flame bigsmooth but this is traffic and when you tell someone that it'll be an hour to get there then you're early or late is that 1 fault?...
