So my gf is graduating in Dec and going to grad school. Her parent's insurance are going to stop covering her when she graduates.

BlueCross is like $260/month with dental, way too much IMO. Has anyone had experience with any other health insurance companies?

Any suggestions in general?

Check with her school to see if they offer anything.
Guess I shoulda included this too: she won't be in school from Jan-August and needs coverage during then as well. We're gonna look into if you can get coverage for that overlap as well through the student health plans.

Her best bet will be the school.

edit: Didn't see the OP's post above. Honestly, the best option would be to get a job that has health insurance.

Most jobs don't have health insurance anymore.

Best bet is to find another country.

Georgia has insurance called Cobra for these particular types of problems. Find out if your state has a state health insurance, Georgia's is relatively inexpensive

Perhaps your job at McDonald's doesn't offer insurance, but most real jobs do offer it.

Student plan would be her best bet, but I am not sure if you can just wait till you leave school to sign up for that. They may extend it for several months after she leaves school, but she probably needs to be in the plan now to do it.
Other than that, if she is healthy, she should just get a high deductable plan, and maybe wait till august to do dental stuff. I mean how often does she go to dentist? Just get everything done in jan, and wait till august to do the rest.

I thought Cobra is where you extend your existing healthcare plan after you leave work or school. Her situation is that she doesn't have a healthcare plan in her name to extend.

Mickey D's doesn't have Health Insurance?

Anyone in here can confirm that?

Don't confuse them.

She should be able to anyway but only for three months I believe. When I got kicked off my parents plan I had about six days where I wasn't covered. I ended up just going without coverage because you have 45 days to opt in and it's retroactive so at worst I would opt in late and get reimbursed for any expenses I incured.

It would be great if you took your own advice.

Yes you can still get it but three months is the maximum I think, it may be six, either way it's still feasible to look at something similiar

Wow. I guess Bush has totally ruined EVERYTHING. I knew there was a reason why I had a rope noose hanging in the corner. Bush is bringing the world to it's knees, and I just can't stand it anymore. Goodbye cruel world!

depending on your age, you should be able to find many affordable health insurance plans... you might also look into doing short term health insurance if it's less than 3 months that you'll need coverage.

Check with your communist ;) job about adding a partner. I know where I work you can add a partner does not matter if its same sex or opposite. I am sure it was meant so gays can offer it to their partner but many heterosexuals that are not married but live together use it.

I graduated in May and I'm buying temporary health insurance though Assurant until I can find a full time job. It's only $70/month for me. It's only for major stuff only.
