aside from not picking it up, what the hay else could I freakin' do, 'cuz the freakin' phone just rings, and I need to distinguish between important calls. number change is the absolute last option.

it's annoying

solutions welcome.
 
I'd get it traced, get the police involved. Probably some prankster. Maybe call 611 see if there's a bad condition on the line first that's causing it, but it sounds more like it is someone doing it.
 
Is this on your cellphone or land line? If it's on your cell you should be able to go into the contacts and add the number to a reject list.

Yep, they can leave a message. Do not answer any private or restricted calls anymore. None.

They keep doing it because you keep answering.
 
yeah, set it up to only accept unblocked calls. I had this problem and went to the police. With regards to calls you've already received, it turns out that they can't ALWAYS trace it if it's a private number. Sometimes they can, sometimes they can't, it depends on the phone company of the originating caller. If they put a trap on the line though they will be able to trace all incoming calls from that point forward.

I'm thinking about programming: skype numbers to automatically call this fvcker, 24/7 until the number is forced for a disabled. run it on several Virtual OS with multi-handle simulators into the thousands usin' .net

p.s. friend had a friend who pushed 20,000 e-mails at once into someone's inbox, overloading AOL (dial-up days)... AOL then, immediately banned the user account of the e-mailer.
