So, let me get this straight, your argument is that nobody who owns a Prius has a family or needs the roominess of a Prius?

And then you are comparing resale value of a 7 year old Prius with 210,000 miles to a 5 year old Yaris with 60k miles? 😕 What the hell have you been smoking? At 30k a year the Yaris would have 150,000 miles on it after 5 years... not 60k. And then you state that the Yaris is worth twice as much? Um, you got that backwards too. A 2007 Prius with 60k miles is worth 13.5k and the Yaris is worth 7k.

ZOMG! Someone might spend $20k on a roomy 4 door economy car! The horror!!! 🙄

I spent $22,900 on my car when I bought it. It is a 4 door midsize sedan and I bought it new... it has 115,000 miles on it and it gets around 20mpg. I have a family of 3 and I drive 15,000 miles a year just in commuting. A Prius would make perfect sense as a replacement for my car when the time comes.

You penny pinchers are out of your tiny little minds.

Really. Please tell the audience which car they can buy that gets Prius-type mileage and yet is not a hybrid. You can use figures from fueleconomy.gov.

guys, measuring a hybrid just of the fuel economy and cost is retarded, please stop... its a new technology you are adopting, just imagine, the breaking force is storing energy that increases the fuel efficiency, its a great piece of technology! afterall you don't buy all your ifails just for the battery life, do you?

I didn't. I already know Prius's get great mileage. I also already know I don't care for how they look and I prefer something larger for when I need to tow or haul something as well as the safety aspect.

Heh. Way back when I bought a motorcycle. Only a 550, but decent enough for the highway in a pinch.

In the summer I spent all my time on my bicycle, and the motorcycle sat in the garage.

1) I hated riding the motorcycle in the city. The only way to enjoy it was to get out of the city, but I lived downtown. For the bicycle I could find places to ride like bike paths even in the city. I also would ride through the ravine.
2) I hated riding the motorcycle on the highway, because our roads are so crowded, and so many car drivers drive like asses. This doesn't apply to the bicycle because it's not allowed on the highway.
3) I hated riding the motorcycle in the hotter days of summer. To be safe I'd never ride a motorcycle without at least a thick jacket and appropriate protective gloves, shoes, and pants. I'd be happy with just light clothing on the bicycle. Plus the motorcycle helmet was ginormous in comparison, but necessary because of the difference in speeds. This meant the only enjoyable times for me for riding temperature-wise was late spring and early fall... as long as it wasn't raining.
4) I got no exercise riding the motorcycle and I couldn't carry anything substantial either. So, it had the disadvantage of the car (no exercise) and the disadvantage of the bicycle (can't carry anything).

So after a year I just got rid of the motorcycle and kept my car and bicycle.

You weren't spewing decade old talking points, and no doubt I'd rather be in a tundra in a multi-vehicle accident than a Prius!

That's a scary thought. All these runaway vehicles that can randomly start to accelerate with no brakes. :awe:

I'm guessing/hoping they fixed that by now though.

What's here to learn, that 99% of Prius owners won't recoup the added cost of the car when they could have gotten something like a Focus that gets ~40mpg and saved thousands initially as well?

It's essentially been concluded there was no fix; it was driver error.

Since when is 33 mpg combined "~40 mpg"? I'll teach you: http://www.fueleconomy.gov It's more like ~33. I can see that the marketing approach that a lot of brands are using now touting only the highway figure has worked on you, though 🙁

The best part about owning the Prius is all of the coal-miners that you will keep employed to keep the electric plants operating. Not to mention employing all of the toxic metal miners in China that are gouging huge swaths of land to get the material for your batteries. Or all of the doctors that will need to be trained to treat the kids that grow up in the slag heaps of the metal mines.

Way to go Prius owners! Your are really changing the world!

I didn't realize Toyota was taking the financial burnden of recycling all these packs. Do you have a link, I'd be interested to read how they plan on executing on that.
 
I'd get a Prius if I needed a city car, but gas mileage would be one factor. It's a status symbol/car and the same as getting a Porsche, Audi, or bimmer when you could easily get by with a Civic.
 
Per Wikipedia and few other actual review sites claim 51-52 MPG (US) for 2.2 Diesel CX-5.

Who would get one if this were made available in US of A?
