I approve of the trend. The more fuel efficiency we can get, the better.

The Prius is rearranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic.

It makes people feel good about themselves, but in the end, it is a fish farting in the ocean.

Until we get off of oil, or something that uses more fossil fuels to produce than it is worth (corn), we are in trouble.

You saving a few gallons buying a Prius is being completely shat on by the rise of the Chinese middle class, and the amount of personal vehicles they will be purchasing in next 20 years.

Is anyone else surprised the Focus is 2nd?

If you take the US market only, yes I'd be very surprised.

My understanding is that the Focus is quite popular in Europe. That is likely helping the Focus get to number 2.

Prius isn't my cup of tea.

But I have to admire Toyota's marketing. Clearly, they have tapped into something that is very productive for their sales figures. And while all of the auto companies have marketing research groups, only Toyota seems to have taken advantage of the hybrid trend in a big way.

That said, the new Prius C seems to be the first Prius to get mixed reviews.

It will be interesting to see how Toyota's future vehicles are influenced by the Prius. As well as to see how the current Prius holds it value in the future used car market.

I remember seeing your thread about it in the Garage, but can you remind me how much you paid OTD for it? Just curious.

This isnt surprising. The Prius is sold in more than 70 countries, the Focus 120 countries, and the Corolla in over 140 countries.

I don't understand why so many people seem personally insulted that some one else bought a prius. Who gives a fuck?

It was on my list when I was new car shopping. Unfortunately, I hated the interior and the price was a little too high for me. I probably could have waited until the Prius C came out and test drove that, but too late.

Not really - Sedan, hatch, wagon, ST

great mpg, high quality interior, sporty, versatile

exactly. when my taurus was in the shop i drove one. I actually liked it. I was surprised at how nice the interior was and how it drove. Also it was roomy enough inside for me a passenger and my 2 kids.

To those speaking to lack of payback over the life of the car don't take into account that many Prius owners are banking on the price of gas increasing significantly. Now, this might be a mistake, but not everyone can foresee the future.

The Prius is the car you get when you decide to abandon fun and become another lame yuppie. The ones who want to feel like they're making a difference through as little effort as possible.

Electric cars on the other hand are fantastic in concept, assuming battery tech improves. Tons of torque, it's scary. Would love to try the Tesla Roadster.

After seeing Jeremy Clarkson's review of it (don't remember which exact one it was), I am sure that people only buy them to be seen in.

 Really? You concluded that from an entertainment show like Top Gear?

I am sure that people buy them because they get phenomenal gas mileage.

My next car may be a hybrid like the new Ford Fusion or maybe a Prius. My commute is way too boring (stop and go traffic) and long to bother with the shitty fuel economy of a sports car or a luxury car or a land barge truck/stupid useless vehicle.
