Prius Driver Poll

Are Prius Drivers All Douchebags?

  • Yes, 100%

  • No, only 99.9%

Results are only viewable after voting.
Got behind one this morning that I wasn't sure about. I wasn't sure if he was a hyper-mileing douchebag, a talking on the phone douchebag, or just a stupidly retarded douchebag douchebag. I did manage to blow his doors off... in a Honda Fit and continue on my self-important way.

They aren't on my radar. I did note this morning that Saturn is the new(er) Oldsmobile. That's the car old people that shouldn't drive, drive. I wonder what they'll pick when the Saturns are all in the junk yard? I wonder what I'll drive when I'm too old to drive? :^O Hopefully I'll have the sense to give it up when I should :^D

Prius driver here. In my honest opinion there is a lower incidence of douchebaggery amongst Prius drivers here than on average. They tend to be a bit older and less concerned about performance. Often slow drivers, yes, but safer and boring drivers. That is not true of all of course, but probably there is a tendency to that.

The most common stereotype for car douchebaggery seems to me to be in the 16-30 male group, driving lowered or heavily modded vehicles, etc.

You won't see this prius driver going below 9 over the speed limit. The only thing i may do to boost my MPG is riding someone's ass.

Yes slow driver, pull to the right lane. That's what Prius owners need to learn. If you are going to drive 60mph on the freeway, DO NOT USE THE FAR LEFT PASSING LANE!!!!

I drove a 2007-ish Prius at work a bunch of times. That thing had trouble going above 100 Km/h. If I really pushed it, I could keep it quite a bit higher, but there was vibration, the car didn't feel as stable, and the engine sounded really stressed. Newer models are supposed to be better, I hear.

Having to merge back onto a busy freeway after pulling over on a shoulder was a nightmare. Killed my love for the Prius.

I voted yes because poll sucks. Sad that now 15 years on since the release of this vehicle there is still so much butthurt over Priuses and their drivers.

Saturn drivers are terrible. I pass them whenever possible.

They are slow. 0-60 about 10 ish, and yeah you can feel it. It's really the only bad thing about the car, but they really are as slow as hell.

 Like lifted pickup trucks and M3s. Actually, I'll add Audi drivers to that list too. You car frequently find them doing stupid aggressive shit behind the wheel.

I drive a Camry Hybrid but I just drive it like a regular car. I'm just happy not to have to stop and fill the freaking gas tank every 4 days.

If it doesn't impact my commute to wherever, I don't care what people are driving.

I just hate assholes who ignore the common decency to get out of the left lane when they aren't passing people, and of all, people who go 10 under the speed limit (and their four-way flashers aren't on, suggesting a reason for trouble).

I don't recognize left/right lane issues on regular non-highway roads, so in those instances, I just hate people who go ridiculously slow without a reason. And those who also have slow reaction so they miss good turning opportunities when it is otherwise backed up, as well as those who pull out in front far too long after they should have because they have delayed processing skills and now interrupt traffic behind them, if not causing brake slams because they also have no care to hurry up and get to speed.

I have a hearty smile whenever I see that an old couple has passed me on the highway and in all circumstances when they seem to be very much up to par (above par, perhaps? the average driver is terrible, it seems) in regards to reaction skills and driving ability.
I love to see it. It makes me think it is very much possible to still be a spry old man who can keep up on the roadway and not piss off young punks like my current self. If I ever reach that point, I hope someone has the curtesy to put me out to pasture. I also hope license renewal testing become a reality by that point.

I drive at speed limit on the right most lane possible and accelerate pretty damn slow to get there. I also get 50mpg and don't give a fuck what other people think.

There are many things that make me a douchebag - driving a Prius at the speed limit is not one of them.

I don't know if they are douchebags but they are the suckiest drivers on the planet to drive behind. They all drive like they are clueless slow 98 year old grandmas. Drives me nuts.

I am 100% acutely aware of how I'm driving because I'm constantly trying to achieve my MPG goals. So, I take offense at the clueless description!

I would say that it seems like the Nissan Altima crowd would be the most prone to douchbaggery around here. 7 times out of 10 they're driving like impatient little prick balls, weaving in and out of traffic, racing ahead only to slam on the brakes at the next light. I think the newer Altimas must be a pretty peppy car which probably makes them feel like everyone is driving to slow. Probably putting down north of 200hp if I was to guess.

Edit: only 175hp for the 4 cylinder. 270 on the v6. They blow the doors off my big heavy truck though. One day one of them is going to get squished though if I'm not able to stop quick enough after he cuts me off.

Prius drivers around here are very tame and usually good drivers.

This + all your other posts leads me to one conclusion:

You are a living perfect picture of the hipster stereotype.

I want to hate you for this, but... dammit, it's rather impressive if you have actually achieved it IRL.

I have no problem with people who keep to the speed limit perfectly, btw. As long as they do it in the correct lane(s), and do their best not to interrupt traffic flow when they make any decision to pass in the left lane.

Taking 10 years to pass a long line of trucks at the speed limit while 10 miles of traffic behind you bunches up waiting for you to finish this epic journey, that's a douchebag move. 😉

As long as your not clueless to the traffic patterns behind you. That's where the clueless asshats piss me off.

Do your thing as long as it's safe and ensures traffic continues to flow. Bad decisions that screw with traffic is how a decent traffic pattern turns into a crawling backup for miles. Bad decisions can also lead to accidents due to such issues of reactions upon reactions - those who make bad decisions rarely get involved in crashes, but they are indirectly or directly responsible for so many of them.

If you are a clued-in driver - spot on sir, and keep at it!
If you've ever been honked at by a long chain of cars, then doom on you!

Haha, you are calling it better than you know 😀

The 4 cylinder current gen Altima is fairly decent for an entry mid-level car. Never, ever feels like a V6, but it's not too bad for something that gets almost 40 mpg on the highway.

I don't have a beard and I don't wear cardigans and vests.

But otherwise...

😉

Don't even notice the Prius drivers around here. They're no better or worse than the average.

SUV and pickup drivers take the crown for worst/most aggressive drivers around here. Especially come winter. No, your vehicle doesn't make you invincible. No, tailgating me in the right lane during a snow storm is not going to make traffic move any faster.

Ricers/hoons are getting to be a big problem as well where I live. Have to listen to them tearing up the back all night with their fart cans. Pisses me off.
