Prison Guard pees on inmates, gets sentenced to scrubbing toilets in jail

WTF? Why would they pay $100k to inmates for being peed on when in jail???

Granted, it was messed up of the guards to do that, but I don't think it's worth thousands... Sheesh. They are, after all, criminals.

I like the typical lawyer remark "well, your Honor, even though my client was indeed pissing through the grate, and admits to knowing there were prisoners below the grate, there is no way to know if my client actually HIT them with HIS urine". Musta worked on the OJ case....

Do you think that criminals should have gotten less money just because they are criminals?

No, but I would only punish the perpetrators and not reward the victims (thus punishing tax payers). They got too good a deal for being in jail. Compensation should not have been in the quadruple digits.

for me, it woudl depend on what the guys were in there for. if the guy just killed random people, go ahead pee away. if the guy killed someone trying to steal stuff from his house, that's not right.

Yet when the inmates throw piss and vomit on the guards like they do in hundreds of prisons each day...the inmates get nothing done to them.

Ridiculous.

If I'm not mistaken, prisoners make 80 cents for 8 hours of picking trash off the highway. They have to pay for cigs somehow!

Now now, Don, they are also human beings. I work in a private prison system right now as a correctional officer. Granted, it is minimal security, but you get to know these guys and they have families.....wives and kids....they are also somebody's father, son, brother, etc...

But, on the other hand, I agree with this also.🙂

You should meet the cops in Fargo 😛 The dont take anything. We had this one kid at high who was high and pretty much a trouble maker. Cops escorted him out he went for the officers balls, lets just say he had a BIG Headache 😛

Everyone that thinks they shouldn't be getting any money out of it:
If a cop had pissed off a roof onto a bunch of guys playing basketball in a park, instead of a jail, should they have been able to sue for $25k each?

Those people in jail were sentanced to jailtime for whatever crime they committed. They were NOT sentanced to submersion in other people's bodily fluids. They're entitled to the same thing that anyone else would be entitled to as compensation for being urinated on.

I'm not saying that it was OK for the guards to do that. I'm saying the prisoners should NOT be able to get a dime out of it. When you're in prison, you lose most of your rights. As it should be. Your right to non-damages related judgements should be one of the rights you lose.

If the inmate was physically injured, any costs incurred by the inmate should be paid. Any damage to personal posessions (that shank that rusted, cartons of waterlogged cigs, etc) should be covered. "Pain and suffering"???? No.

And yes, I've been in a jail (not prison) for a month and would be really torqued if some of the guards pulled that garbage, but I wouldn't expect to be able to call Larry H. Parker and have him "Fight For Me".

The funny thing about that is, is I actually live in Springfield, MO where this happened and I have never even heard about it.

True but I believe 25k for being pissed upon is a little too high, criminal or not.
