Breaking: Fox cancels 'Prison Break'

Big news from Fox's portion of winter press tour! The net just announced that Prison Break would be coming to an end this season. Oh, did I say big news? I meant news we all saw coming a mile away.

The final string of episodes will kick off April 17, but exactly how many episodes there will be is an open question. "We've got our remaining batch of four episodes and then there are a couple more we're contemplating," says network prez Kevin Reilly, adding that the four-year old Prison has simply run its course. "The show is played out."

Do you agree? Will you miss it? Looking for more scoop from Fox's exec session? Check out the Hollywood Insider blog a little later for Lynette Rice's complete report.

I personally thought season 2 was terrible and laughed my way to the end of that season and haven't watched it since. I loved season 1 though. I'm shocked it made it as long as it did though.

i said it in the beginning, this was a 1 season show that got milked for all its worth because TV execs are complete idiots.

I never watched it but how long can a show about a prison break go on for?

@ bonkers, they broke out of prison and they kept the show going???

Yep

2nd season started alright but then it just got stupid and i didnt even finish it.

I didnt watch the show much. But I never understood how breaking out of prison could drag on for more than a single season anyways.

It was actually a 2 season show. Season 1 break out, season 2 clear their names while on the lam. They tried to stretch it too long. But still, I thought this current season has been very strong. The whole story arc in Panama was silly, but this year they've bounced back.

I have been watching the current season off an on and it is pretty painful. They took a fantastic premise and formula and milked it until it became a joke that drove away viewers. Every episode has them ALMOST getting their objective but at the last minute, a new hurdle comes along. What a fucking shocker...

Season 1 was awesome. Season 2 started off good as there were still plenty of things to wrap up. When it became obvious that nothing would EVER get wrapped up, the show went downhill and fast.

that's too bad. i didn't get to watch any of season 4 yet and i heard it was good.

FWIW i thought it was a bit weak in season 3.

season 1 was amazing though.

Wonder if it will be 'completed' story-wise. I haven't watched the last few eps yet, but it seemed like it was drawing to a close.

If not, I hope USA or someone picks it up. It can't be a very expensive show to produce really.

This, it was ridiculous to begin with.

But maybe they deserve some credit for stretching it 4 more seasons without an actual prison.

Well, Hogan's Heroes was about breaking out of a POW camp and that lasted for awhile 😛.

the beauty of the writing is that they could wrap it up after any episode. They are always seemingly within reach of whatever they are currently after...

We must have seen different shows. Hogan's Heroes was about a unit working from a prison to help the allies. They broke out many times to complete missions, getting out was never an issue.

I think it would be awesome if they filmed a deadpan last episode wherein the 'crew' gets word of their cancellation and breaks into Fox headquarters only to get captured and taken into a small room and brutally syndicated into slavery to a basic cable channel.

Um, I guess we would have to call this 'Boston' Break or something.
