Prioritizing the internet using QOS

Hi,

I want to make sure that certain machines on the network never have to wait for P2P traffic or otherwise to get to the internet.

Is it just port 80 and port 53 that i have to prioritize in order to do this.

Im i missing out on any ? ? ?

Thanks

Hi,

I dont exactly know what you mean by this, is it a matter of giving more ports higher or lower priority.

If so which ones ?

If not could you try to simplify your post a little more i am quite green at this 🙂

Not bittorrent, at any rate. So if that's the p2p in question then that's not an issue.

I love www.grc.com. Thought that would help some of you guys out.

To attempt to answer the question, assuming the software is referring to tcp/udp ports, place a high priority on the commonly used ports. Put a low priority on the P2P ports.. I'm probably mistaken, but in my experiences with QOS - it refers to port as a physical port on the switch or router.

FWIW, I use my router (rv016) to limit the max upload speed of a certain port or IP address - ie rate control opposed to priority.

good luck
