Printing to a local network printer from a Remote Desktop session

Scenario:

HP 2015DN connected via ethernet and installed as a local printer using Standard TCP/IP port on PC1.

PC is connecting to a Terminal Server, and the option for using local printers is selected. The printer is not showing up in the RDC session.

Worked fine with the old printer, which is a LaserJet 4 connected to PC2 via Parallel cable, and then shared over the network to PC1.

Why does one network printer (the LJ4) work and this one isnt? The only difference is the way they are networked and connected.

Any ideas?

I'll try....

Your new printer is not a local printer (not directly connected to the host).

It sounds like a permissions problem or configuration with terminal services.

I'm really taking a stab in the dark with this one as I honestly don't have a clue how this works. Post the output of your printer control panel/printer properties.

Do you get my line of thinking though? It isn't a local printer, that's the key difference between the old and new printer.

Got it to work!!!

Shared the original networked printer as HPLJ2015.

Added a dummy local printer on port LPT2: with the drivers for 2015DN.

Then I dropped to a command prompt and "net use LPT2 //localhost/HPLJ2015 \persistent:yes"

Boom, now when I connect the RDP session redirects the LPT2 printer, and that in turns redirects to the actual 2015!! WOOT
