I never owned an ink jet so I have no idea whats going on.. but have read about it..

Basically its missing lines in the print out... like when you print a word, every other line seem to be missing..

is the head clogged ? I thought that the cartridge has the print head built in to it.. are they like seperate or something ?

I think they swap out the ink cart and it was the same... so this is replacing the printhead ?

have no idea how old or how many copies passed through it..

any tips or places to read up on these things.. thanks..

Generally it means that one or more nozzles are clogged. Your printer manual should tell how to clear most clogs but most of those methods use quite a bit of ink, so don't try more than a couple of cycles before progressing to a head soaking or similar. nifty-stuff.com should have some info on ways people have cleared their clogged nozzles. The manual for my HP was a PDF file on the driver CD - I had to print it out, but you could view the head cleaning section on screen. And yes, most HPs have integrated head cartridges.

Unlike most HP inkjets, the OfficeJet Pro L7590 does not have the head in the cartridges.

It has two printheads - each handles two colors. The heads are designed to last about 40,000 copies.

L7590

The unit ships with TWO printheads in the box, and they are user installable.

Replace the heads if the cost does not exceed $200. You can replace the entire machine from HP for that.

The heads run about $60 apiece.

The heads are available on fleaBay for about $30. each if it comes to that (replacement is your last resort)...

I knew the new HP printers with the seperate inks used replaceable heads. But I was not aware of the life of them. 40,000 pages is a long time, unless it is being used in a business, in which case, you could do that many in less than 1 year. My HP7410 has the heads on the ink cartridges, so when they get changed so does the head. But the inks are not cheap either .. about $30 or so
