I'm looking for a fix that seems to be a common problem with Widows 7 and USB printers but I have not been able to find a real fix for it.
Have a home network wth Desktop with Win XP, old laptop with Win XP and new laptop with Win 7. Linksys router, Trendnet print server, 1 Canon Pixma printer and 1 HP 5700 series printer. All the XP machines print just fine. The Win 7 laptop printed for 1 day and then showed the printers status as offline. Uninstalled once and reinstalled and finally got it to print once and then the same problem (offline).
In searching the internet this is a common problem and NOT just with people using a print server. Most of the time it is home network with router only or not a network but USB printers.
Seems to be a Windows issue but I can't find much on the Microsoft web site either.
Does ANYBODY really know what the problem is?
Thanks!

Apparently, this is a problem that quite a few people are having and there is apparently no consensus on a fix.

The following is only a workaround, but it usually works for me to my printer back online on my Win7 machine: double click on the offline printer to bring up the print queue. Under the Printer menu, uncheck the "Use Printer Offline" option. Then try to print.

Hi,

The solution for an offline error of a printer is to check the proper connection of the printer.

Two options exist to turn off the offline mode.

If you choose the first option to change the offline state of the printer,

then go to Control Panel and then ‘Printer and Faxes’ option on the Control Panel.

Double-click on the printer you want to change to online mode from the displayed window.

A pop-up window will open and you need to select ‘Uncheck Printer Offline‘ option from the menu bar.
