Printer Suggestions

Right now I have an old Epson Stylus 880. I am looking for a new printer. I print mostly text and ocassionaly some color things, but I don't print photos or anything like that. Picture quality is not a concern, but text quality is. I would like the printer to have color cartridges as well as black, but they don't have to be high quality or anything like that. Also the budget is somewhere under $80. Thanks.

Canon i470D

i got it from a recommendation, came with a $50 mail in rebate. black ink for it costs $5, color costs $18 at your local bestbuy. the picture quality totally blew me away, esp since it prints boarderless. it also hooked up to my digital elph and the printer is very small and portable. best $50 i've spent to date.

i really like epson printers 🙂

they have good print quality, but what i like the most is that i can buy generic ink cartridges for around $2-$3 each (for both black and color)
with all the printing my wife does!!! it saves a fortune 😀 (megatoners.com is where you can get cheap generic cartridges)

I'm a Canon user now too. I have an Epson C82 also, but it's in the closet with clogged nozzles. If you don't print color regularly, the color nozzles will easily clog up.
. Canon doesn't seem to have that problem and carts are even cheaper than for Epson. I can get a set of 3rd party black and color carts for about $3. for my i450. Text print is more than good enough and I can detect NO banding or other flaws whatsoever in color. However, the color does look a little washed out relative to the Epson, but then I haven't taken the time to see if I can get the color a little more saturated. The driver does have plenty of tweeks available.
. The one you might want if you do lots of printing is the 500 series. At least one model just dropped to under $100. for a regular price. Well worth the extra $s for the larger ink tanks and separate color tanks, rather than the fairly puny black and tricolor tank of the 400 series.

if you can go $89 plus tax go to Sams or Costco and get a Canon i560. This includes a USB cable. Forget HP, Epson, Lexmark and all other inkjet brands.

You'll make your $9 up on carts the first time you have to change one if you use generics.

Another ex Epson user that`s a Canon convert 😉,all I can say is if you can stretch your budget to the Canon i560 printer ,you`ll be a happy owner.

Yes the inks are cheaper and seperate ink carts for each colour on the i560 and higher models.

I am using a Canon S530D $30 AR from OM. I am lovin' It. We had problems at work with an Epson C84 that the print head clogged after 3 months of use.
