Printer Stuck in Offline Mode

I've never run into this one before. Most of my googling suggested to make sure the power was on, cables connected, etc.

Here's the deal, I'm trying to get a Lexmark printer connected to a friend's laptop via USB. All drivers are installed and it is recognized by the computer however it is always Offline. If I turn off the printer and turn it back on the control panel will show Online for a few seconds before eventually going offline. FYI, the printer is NOT set to run in offline mode. Already checked that one. 🙂

This is a Vista Home Premium machine. There were a couple of other printers installed on the computer that I removed as they will no longer be in use.

Any ideas?

What version of Vista? 32bit? 64bit? A Lot of basic drivers for crappy printers come stock with 32bit, if you're running 64 they may not work right. Reinstall the drivers from disc, or from support site making sure they are for the correct OS. Failing that, maybe restart the spooler, or what i like to do with inkjet printers, toss it out the window while doing 70MPH on the nearest freeway. They all look and work the same after that.
