Printer Sharing

Hi everyone;

I have a printer I like to share with my niece.

Some site's mention that both our computers have to install the Client for Microsoft Network, File and Printer Sharing, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocal and enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. The problem is that it can open up to attacks and hackers. Is this true? If so, is there a safe method for this?

- Both out computers have Windows XP Home with SP2.

- My printer is connected to my computer via USB.

- I have a Westell Versalink 327w modem/router combo connected to my computer via ethernet. (My niece has a D-Link G510 wireless desktop card).

I plan to run the network setup wizard, unless there is a better option?

I had done some research, but still not sure what's the best way for the setup. Any help greatly appreciated.

as long as your behind a basic router/firewall enabling file and printer sharing is not going to be a security risk. if your pc had a direct connection to a dsl or cable modem that could be an issue, but your router should keep your network private.

Just to confirm, I could just run the network wizard and everything should be fine right?

All these different websites I had been to mention different settings and options and is quite confusing for me.
