Ok, I'm looking for a decent laser printer, maybe even a color laser! but I need to read up, get opinons and all that. Looking to spend less then 500 and the less the better! However, having said that I would like to have a reliable printer with good output and speed is not an issue.

I have a hp LaserJet 1150, i got it after all the ink jets we had kept stuffing up, we have had it about a year now wiht no problems and my mum is doing her thesis so a lot gets printed off. Im not sure if you can still get them or how much they are (I'm in new zealand so completlky different market) but it certainly does the job for printing out text, not the best at pictures because it has a fairly low res though.

Amazon? Your going with the customer reviews then. I guess if enough people respond that's good. but if only one or two respond you get a biased view. Are there any site that do printers that are respected?

Excellent point mikable,

Most printer reviews are ad dollar sponsored or the writer knows if they tell the truth, its the last review opportunity they will get.

Will recommend a few good sites offering user experiences.

Toms hardware guide.
Nifty stuff forums
Steves Digicams

I do note the Tom's hardware guide site had a recent review of color lasers------with per page cost breakdowns and apple to apple comparisons.-------just google THG, open Tom's site, find peripherals
on the middle left margin, and scroll down to the color laser review.

But users on this forum may want to weigh in on laser options, perhaps the best option in reducing per page consumable costs and recount their experiences. But I do believe an inkjet printer like the Canon ip4000 paired with cheap aftermarket cartridges can give even a laser a run for its money on economy.

Will also say, HP probably makes the best Lasers. Just ran across one on ebay with a page count over 300,000, and touted by the seller as still working perfectly. But HP inkjets are just hopeless on economy unless you refill.

Thanks lemon I'll check out the sites listed.

I've always been a bit leary of customer reviews not because of dishonesty but lack of reference. See if only owned a Yugo and went out and got a Chevy Aveo, I'd think I'd gotten myself a nice car. but I would not have driven a Ford Focus, or a Honda Civic for comparison or I would never have gotten the Aveo.

Customer reviews on store sites like amazon are like that to a large degree. If Guy a buys the 99 dollar special and it prints good enough for him he thinks "wow, what a great deal" he never knows what the 109 dollar deal is like. Yes, there are some good, detailed reviews by people that have exposure to many different products, but they are few and far between.
