Printer problem

Having problems with a compaq IJ1200 printer. The ink needed to be replaced so that was done. Now when the ink tray goes to set it self it goes flying across the belt and does it so hard the ink pops out, and shakes the machine. The ink is in place correctly but this tray knocks it out everytime. Tried a whole bunch of stuff and nothing worked leading me to believe its a bad part. Would that the case ? Or am I missing something. If anyone has any tips or suggestions to try please post them.
