1. "scanner" ?
yep, back at the begining I mentioned I was looking for multi-function printer/scanner. then discussion revealed laser printers are good for text , but not frequently in multi function devices MFD 's . and cetrtainly not less expensively. . So, If a laser can be had from e-bay cheaply and one can get 3000 copies from one cartridge. ( I take it there is not equivalent to a print head in laser design)...

And I continue to treat my photography the same way with film at a photo lab . and send out whatever few digital images I need hard copies of ...
then all I need is a scanner, potentially reaping the benefit of higher resolution from seperate components over all-in-one units.

I do see a need to get quality scans of color images, to send in email - just no need to print out any .

I missed fact that Canon inkjet DON't CLOG - thanks for bringing it to my attention
l asers are apparently affected by humidity .

Marco2 ...but $79 Canon i560 at Costco is pretty hard to gripe with
and what are you doing with a closet full of HP inkjets?
aside form whatever discount -type price you may be offering one up to sale , for
there is the higher cartridge cost

Of interest is that computergeeks.com doesn't carry Canon , when I looked to see the price of i860
whats up with that?
I also have a closet full of HP printers. . . HP was in the habit of offering their printers very (very) cheaply with the intention of SCREWING you on replacement ink cartridges (compared with other printer mfgers) . . . . in fact, i'd say I got MOST of my HP printers free after rebate . . . so why should i pay $50 MORE dollars for ink when I can get ANOTHER (HP) printer for free?

NO more hp . . . it's Canon, baby. 😀

AND check NewEgg . . . when i odered earlier this month, shipping was free and there is a $30 rebate on the i860 and i960.

After trying to run an HP inkjet for less than $1000 a year I switched to Canons, have 10 running in the office putting out tons of brochures etc. No more than $200 a year to run them all. That's just ink, I run continuous feed and refills. They never cease to amaze me.
If one goes I just replace it. They are basically throw aways, I usually get excess of 25k copies out of one. The Canon i series printhead is ceramic. Tough as nails, best they have ever made.

Tried Epsons too. Heads clog when I tried continuous feed. HP is a total joke.
Lexmark is worse.

Lasers are ok in a A/C environment. But I like color. Only cheap color I know is an inkjet.

yikes! $49.99 for Canon i350. that is cheap .. but not a flatbed printer.
that is where I draw the line. so much more workable

If it really is a laser, that's an awesome buy. they didn't have all these laser MFPs when i bought my samsung a couple of months ago. In fact, the samsung was the only laser MFP under $300.

lastly
what does it mean to be able to use as a photo printer? is this right?....
" Photo printer means that It might be able to print off your camera directly without going thru a computer, especially if it has a 6 or 7 in one media reader, or a powered usb port that you can link to the camera directly."
