I have a 6 month old HP Deskjet 1050 J410 all in one printer and I cant get it to print anything black. Color works fine though.

Yes I have done all the usual cleaning steps.

I've googled for hours with no luck.
I've tried 2 different new remanufactured cartridges and still no black will print.
I know HP will say use new HP brand inks, but I can buy a new printer for the price of a new HP brand cartridge. Plus I have never had an issue using reman cartridges before especially 2 different ones.

Anybody have any ideas?

thanks

There is nothing "remanufactured" about refilled cartridges. They're collected, cleaned, refilled then repackaged. There's no way to know how many times that cartridge has been refilled (those microscopic nozzles aren't designed to last) and nothing to guarantee that the refill ink duplicates the OEM ink. IMHO they're pretty much a crap shoot; maybe you get a good one...maybe you don't.

Thanks for the reply

It was printing fine with a reman cartridge and then the next time I tried to print (with the same cartridge) it wouldn't print black. I then tried a different cartridge and it didn't work either.
Also I ordered some ink and refilled the original cartridge. still no luck.

After hours of googling I have read that there are other people with this model of printer having the same issue. Unfortunately no one found a fix that I am aware of.

I'll probably just cut my losses and buy a different brand

My HP Deskjet 1050 J410 is also having this problem (prints color fine, but not black). I'm using genuine HP cartridges.

I found this thread and tried the "reset" steps in the first response but that didn't work.

I think I've had some issue with every fucking printer I've ever owned, dating back to the 486 days. I was tempted to buy a B&W laser printer recently cause it was a great deal. Damn, I should've.

From Here: http://www.justanswer.com/printers/5g3qo-hp-deskjet-1050-j410-cannot-select-maintenance-tasks.html

Most likely this is a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:

(1) Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over
(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water to thoroughly clean the print head and each ink cartridge.
(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges
(6) Try to print something now

If that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:
(1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error
(2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced.

I would rule out the printhead comment since Deskjet printheads are part of the ink cartridge. A new HP61 cart (black) is also a new printhead. The rear of the cartridge has a printed circuit that connects to the cartridge socket of the printer. Make sure that area is clean and not covered with tape, etc. Cost of a genuine HP 61 is about $17 - hardly the cost of a new printer. Here is the HP troubleshooting guide for that printer. The last section deals with cartridges.

They used to be part of the actual cartridge, but this is no longer always the case.

My all in one has a separate Print Head as does his.

For an example see this link on how to replace the Printhead:

The more you know.
