Printer issues with windows 7

Installed windows 7 64-bit

I have a HP deskjet 6840 and I tried several things to install my printer without success.

1. Tried to run the exe package as admin but didn't work.

2. Tried running in compatiblity mode and only installing drivers not bloatware software.
(is there an option for compatibility for say vista 64-bit or do I need to download x86 drivers and run in compatibility mode since it only appears x86 compatibility os's are listed?)


3. Installed through adding a printer via windows. This seemed to work but like someone else stated on another thread, I have the printer icon in the tray saying the printer is spooling with one job but it never prints. This option at least results in no caution sign but maybe I can tweak a bit further to get this to work.

any ideas?

Also I was wondering if anyone installed a Lexmark x4850 I might be concerned since people say the software is needed for scanning and I doubt that is working in this beta/RC1 build.

HP Deskjet 6840

goto this link, and download the latest vista 64bit drivers for your printer. And see if that solves it
 
I've had issues with my HP LaserJet 1022 on Windows 7 (32bit). The print spooler service craps out and I've had about 50% success starting it manually. The other 50% of the time, it says "No printer installed"

I used Vista 32 bit drivers.
