I have an old Printer that is a panasonic KX-P2123 Dot Matrix Printer.

On the back it has a plug with FG beside it. What is it and where can I get it.

Old is right, they started making them in 1992. 24 pin black and white or 4 color ribbon. They are still popular if you need an impact printer for forms. The FG connector is a Centronics connector.

You just need the standard cable that all printers used before USB and Ethernet became the preferred way of connecting them. It hooks to the parallel port on the back of your system unless your motherboard is so new that it does not have one. Many manufacturers are dropping them, serial ports also.

Go to any computer store and ask for a Centronics parallel printer cable. Or you might find someone to just give you one, darn things used to propogate like flies. You can even find them in the 99 cent discount stores here in California since you can't much give them away anymore.

I totally agree with Azimuth40---but some other things to mention--you can google just Panasonic
kx-p2123 and still get a pile of hits---and download a complete owners manual in pdf format.

And even if your computer lacks a parallel port, there are dual gender usb cables that might work. But there are a number of self tests the printer will do without a computer that will be in any manual---and before you spend a lot of money---make sure that puppy still works.

But get the right cable, add the right printer driver, and you should be in business. And for its worth dot matrix printers are very cost efficient at askii text.

I was going to post this last night but the forum went down for maintaince.

And in situations like this---google or any other search engine is always your friend.
