Printer for Apple 2e

Yep, that's right. My wife's boss has an Apple 2e that he has used for years just for one program. He had the program written in '83 or so. They use the program to make layouts of forest density and tree types.

He wants a tractor feed type of printer that will work with this machine. I know NOTHING about the Apple. What printers should I be looking for?

Also, is there a way to run an old program such as this on a Windows 95 based machine?
 
The printer you're looking for is the Apple Image Writer.

Since these are ancient machines they may be hard to find but I did spot a few under the Dot Matrix section in the Printer section on eGay.

I believe there's a commercial maybe even shareware Windows application which will emulate old Apple IIe software. This will be tough but if you use the right search engine you may strike gold.
 
Wow. An Apple IIE. I remember using one of those back in 1984. It was the size of of a midtower, laid on it's side...and weighed considerable more. There was this game called "Taipan". Mono-color graphics and the sound came out of the little speaker inside the Apple. Ah, the early days............good luck w/your printer search.
 
The Apple II emulator lets you run programs on a PC - Pretty Nice. I am not sure how the programs get converted into ROMs though. I know you cannot just pop in your 5-1/4" diskette & boot up.

I don't think Apple II emulation is illegal - if it is, my apologies. Try Asimov.

There is an e-mail address there you can send the files to to have converted - not sure how old it is or if anyone still answers.

Any older Epson dot matrix will work also....FX, LX, LQ.....
I'm assuming the Apple // has a printer card in it....

I was recently at a customer site (a library) and in the Director's office there was still an Apple IIe. Turns out they use it frequently for some program that submits something to another computer...IMO it shouldn't be hard to port something like that. Luckilly this was the one machine they didn't need networked 🙂

As far as your question, look for a used Imagewriter. Shouldn't cost much. Unless you look in your local newspapers where clueless people still try to sell IIe's for $2k...
