Wow. HP used to be the printer to get. What has Canon done to endear itself to the market so much?

Anything made by Lexmark.
Personally I'd go for the X5150 Printer/Scanner/Copier. $150

I've owned lexmarks... Cheap out the door but VERY expensive inks.. My dad is regretting his purchase of a lexmark multifunction.. Also, lexmark just isn't in the same league as hp and canon anymore.. Epson's tendency to "clot" is a whole other nitemare - stick with HP or Canon...

lower ink costs

*sigh* Canon print heads CAN be removed by the flick of a lever. The ink cartridges don't dry, the heads don't clog up as quickly as Epson's - and if they do, it's usually recoverable.
On the quality side, their latest ones are on par with Epson's best, both having 2 picoliter ink drops and high positioning accuracy (4800x1200 at Canon currently, 5660x1440 or something like that at Epson).
On the ink cost side, Canon is best at the moment, followed by the Epsons that also have single ink carts. Lexmark brings up the rear by a LARGE margin.
