I have an Epson C-82, I've had it for about 8 months. I purchased it on the advice of a university bookstore employee(in theComputer dept) who said it was only $9.99 for the color cartidge replacements, and $19.99 for the black.

It turned out to be $29.99 for the black and $19.99 for the color cartridges. And there are three color cartridges. Thats $90 dollars.

This printer will not work if any of the cartridges run out. I can't choose 'black only' if the magenta or cyan or yellow run out.

My printer warned me of low ink on the black cartridge for a looong time. At 10 percent then at 5 percent, finally I replaced the black cartridge.

One week later the printer warns me of low magenta. I replaced the magenta. As the magenta was filling - I got a low cyan warning. By the time the magenta ink head finished filling (two minutes max), it said cyan was OUT .

As I said - this piece of junk won't run if a single cartridge is out.

MAD as all get out - I took the magenta cartridge back to Staples and ordered replacements for all of them online. I refuse to put any more money into this company.

Two weeks later - my cartridges arrive. I put in magenta and cyan. While the cyan and magenta ink heads are filling, the message flashes that the YELLOW ink cartridge is now 'LOW' . Two minutes later - I am informed that the yellow cartridge is now 'EMPTY' . I put in the yellow cartridge and finally my printer works. Oh... I shook the old yellow cartridge, THERE IS STILL INK IN IT !

Is it this printer or am I just lucky?!! Anybody else have this happen?
What is a good printer to by when this one goes down?

NetGuySC,
Thanks for reading and replying! I have some heavy duty classes this semester and class notes, syllabi, readings etc, etc are all online. I had to drop one class due to falling behind waiting on my cartridges. Say, why does the canon have 6 cartidges? If it makes great prints and is a long lasting printer that would be too cooll! The 900 series Canons have light cyan and light magenta inks in addition to the usual four, for better photo printing. There is a brandnew model that has two more (red and green) for even better skin tones and the likes.

i560 is plain 4-color, i865 adds a second black cartridge for a total of five, so it doesn't run off the precious "photo black" when printing text.

Oh, and replacement cartridges range from around $10-11 (genuine Canon) down to half as much for 3rd party ink.

If you would like a sample pic printed on the i950, just let me know and will gladly send you one. But I can tell you that you will not be disapointed.

Also it prints best if printed on canon Paper.

I would advice on staying away from the non-canon inks. They are much cheaper but I hear that some people notice the colors being off and print heads clogging frequently. It's your choice, but my printer will never see non-oem inks.

I love my Epson C82. And if you look around people are trying to sue Epson, HP and a few others I think for this "problem". The problem with the suit is that many ink cartridges are sold by number of prints per cartridge, and not by how much ink is in them. So the suit will fail (IMO anyhow). Epson says you will get x number of prints per ink cart, thats how many you get. I do know not all companies operate this way, but Epson does. As I said, I like my C82, prints are good and ink isn't so bad. I pay $20-21 for black and $10 for each color.

My vote is for i560(4 seperate ink carts) or i865(5 ink carts, extra black like Peter posted in his reply) or if you want the full 6 colour ink cart printer then the i965,btw I got my i865 yesterday and it`s excellent, great for both text and photo prints.
