Printer cable question - USB or parallel cable?

I own a HP deskjet 640C which is connected via a parallel cable to my computer. I was wondering if buying the USB cable will make any noticable difference?

Actually yes there is a difference. On my system anyway. I've noticed that
my 810C when using USB connection often doesn't show up in the device
manager... it just 'disappears' forcing me to replace the USB cable repeatedly
in order to get the system (BH6) to detect it... argh, very aggravating...
doesn't seem to happen with parallel.
