I'm not sure this is the right subforum (since there are tons of em :) ).

I'm looking for a print server for my laser printer. But what I'd like is one that'll power on my printer when it receives a print job and perhaps power it down when it's done printing. I'm not sure how much juice my printer consumes but since I don't print very often, I'd like to keep it off most of the time.

Does such a device exist?

TIA :)

It is going to depend on the printer. Does it have a sleep or standby function ? Most do.
It probably consumes 10-15 watts waiting for a print job.

I cant speak on the power option where I just turn mine off and on as needed. I prefer that over leaving it running to avoid any printer toxicity as I use a laser printer. That said I would by a networked printer and use with it with your current network. Here some network printers you can browse through.

Thanks for the info :) I'm at work right now so I can't recall what the exact model was but I'm 99.9% sure it's a Dell laser printer 1700. I wouldn't be against buying a new printer so that might be an option too (have to run it by the wife first).

EDIT: Here's what I found on a review site

# Power Consumption Operational 600.0 Watt
# Power Consumption Stand by / Sleep 20.0 Watt
